"Take The Square" - Documentary Seeks Funding (Forum)

Received today from Rodney Passave, filmmaker... Hello I launched at the end of 2012 a subscription to finalize the movie "take the square" which I shot in 2011, covering the various social movements (arabic revolutions, Occupy Wall Street, Indignados...) which unsettled the planet. I wanted to write these few lines to you to explain my initiative and how, if you wish, you can help me. Needless to say, I have knocked on every possible door (National Cinematographic center, local administrations, TV chanels, ...) before resorting myself to call upon your sense of solidarity. But the nepotism and the nervousness of the French broadcasting scene don't leave me, as of now, any other choice. you can watch the trailer

OWS begins ‘Year II’ with three-day convergence and call to debt resistance (Blogpost)

by Yates McKee | September 15, 2012 “The whole world is watching! The whole world is watching!” cried voices across Zuccotti Park on Wednesday night as 30 people sat with their arms interlocked, surrounded by cameras and sympathetic onlookers. NYPD officers were positioned some distance away at the concrete barricades that had begun surrounding the park. Confronting the sit-in with mock dispersal orders were Sam Corbin and Logan Price, OWS Direct Action trainers tasked with helping to prepare participants for the People’s Wall, a nonviolent civil disobedience action in the Financial District planned for the morning of Monday, September 17.

S17 Anniversary: Where do we stand? (Blogpost)

12 Sep 2012 Hey all you hacktivists, cypherpunks, mystical anarchists and global revolutionaries out there, As the one year anniversary of OWS approaches, where do we stand? To put it in a nutshell: the Zuccotti encampment model might have passed its heyday, but the spirit of Occupy is still very much alive ... evolving and inspiring, expanding our understanding of the possible, exploding our political imagination. Before S17 we relied on the same dinosaur paradigm of the dusty old left. We looked backward for inspiration instead of forward. With Occupy we jumped over that old dead goat. Now it's time to leap fresh again.

Sheila Bair Visits Occupy Wall Street (News)

by Yves Smith | Monday, September 10, 2012 Sheila Bair, the former FDIC chairman who heads the Systemic Risk Council, and Ricardo Delfina, a fellow Systemic Risk Council member, met on Sunday with members of several Occupy Wall Street working groups: Occupy Bank, Alternative Banking, and Occupy the SEC. I’ve watched presentations by Bair twice previously: once when she was at the FDIC, another not long after she had left government service. Even though she had been pretty direct in those discussions, she was surprisingly specific in this meeting about some of the impediments she faced during the crisis. Some of the topics:

Tell Mayor Bloomberg to Respect Occupy’s Right to Peaceably Assemble (Forum)

When ‘Occupy’ movement becomes a way of life (News)

Reuters | Sunday 17 June 2012 Seven months after Occupy Wall Street’s eviction from Zuccotti Park, the round-the-clock encampment in lower Manhattan that was once the movement’s center, one protester has created his own version of the communal living experiment in Brooklyn. The spacious apartment in Crown Heights where Austin Guest, a 31-year-old Harvard University graduate, lives with another seasoned protester is a far cry from the crowded, chaotic Zuccotti Park of last fall, where hundreds of protesters camped out each night. Nevertheless, inspired by Zuccotti, with its free meals and free books, Guest said he and his friends are pursuing an Occupy-like experiment in mutual aid.

Occupy Wall Street – Taking it to the Streets (Blogpost)

Both started out from Washington Square Park in Lower Manhattan, and both were ostensibly in solidarity with the huge mobilisation of protesters in Québec against raised tuition fees and the commodification of education. The two protests were quite different in nature but both revealed much, not only about the current state of play in the US Occupy movement but also about the position we all find ourselves in more generally, as those who actively seek to find an alternative to the rigor mortis that is post-crash neoliberalism.

Make Way For WAASS: H.R. 658 Accelerates Drone Deployment For Surveillance Of American Citizens (Forum)

MAKE WAY FOR WAASS: H.R. 658 ACCELERATES DRONE DEPLOYMENT FOR SURVEILLANCE OF AMERICAN CITIZENS Perhaps emboldened by the impotence of the ACLU, BORDC, Center for Constitutional Rights, "Oath Keepers" and other toothless rights watchdogs, as well as the inability of the Occupy Movement to break through the corporate-controlled mainstream media blackout of efforts to "Undo NDAA", yesterday H.R. 658 - euphemistically entitled the "FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act" - sailed through the U.S. Senate (75-20-5) and is now headed to the White House where our corporate fascist puppet President Barack Obama is expected to swiftly sign it into law:

Writing for Salon.com, Chris Dovi reports: RICHMOND, Va. — Members of the Occupy Richmond and local Tea Party movements found acres of common ground during an unlikely meeting held Tuesday at a police station-turned-art gallery in the city’s historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. The Remarkable Political Stupidity of the Street (Forum)

BY ROBERT REICH FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2011 Wall Street is its own worst enemy. It should have welcomed new financial regulation as a means of restoring public trust. Instead, it’s busily shredding new regulations and making the public more distrustful than ever. The Street’s biggest lobbying groups have just filed a lawsuit against the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, seeking to overturn its new rule limiting speculative trading. For years Wall Street has speculated like mad in futures markets – food, oil, other commodities – causing prices to fluctuate wildly. The Street makes bundles from these gyrations, but they have raised costs for consumers.

A Fascinating Chinese View of the Occupy Movement (Forum)

http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2011/12/a-fascinating-chinese-view-of-the-occupy-movement/249737/ By James Fallows Dec 8 2011, 11:42 PM ET For an essay that says interesting things about America, and even more interesting ones about China, please check out a new dispatch at China Geeks. It is a translation, by Alec Ash, of a Chinese essay by Wu Yun called "Let's 'Occupy Chang'An Avenue.' " To get the joke you mainly need to know that Chang'An -- "Eternal Peace" -- Avenue runs between Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City in Beijing, so it is shorthand for the Chinese locus of combined political/financial power.

Thousands March Across Brooklyn Bridge (Forum)

By Allison Kilkenny | In These Times | Updated 10:26 a.m. For all his trouble organizing a raid that was meant to deal a swift, crushing blow to Occupy Wall Street, Mayor Bloomberg last night was rewarded with the largest Occupy event yet - a day full of actions that resulted in approximately 250 arrests and culminated in thousands of protesters crossing the Brooklyn Bridge in a peaceful demonstration. After a series of morning intersection occupations at the financial district, occupiers moved the protests underground into subway stations.

Should there be reform on policies that's allowing the major corporation to control the economy of this nation and destroying our globe? We're all here because we want change but it's too vague, should we be discussing to demand specific actions?
