Hacktivist group "Anonymous" plans Occupy event in Steubenville Ohio

First Coast News | Dec 26, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Just a few days after hacktivist group "Anonymous" took over a website dedicated to the Steubenville High School football team, the group called for "Occupy" events in the same small Ohio town.

Occupy events are scheduled to take place in Steubenville on December 29 and January 5 at City Hall, the hacked version of rollredroll.com detailed. The site also stated, "masks are legal to wear, if asked to remove mask, turn it around and take notice of badge number. We will report them to the ACLU."

The December 24 hacked version of the team's website demanded apologies from school officials, coaches and every player on the team of those involved in a suspected rape in August 2012. According to police, at least two Steubenville football players were involved in an apparent sexual assault. The two were initially charged with raping a 16-year-old girl and kidnapping her by taking her to several parties while she was too drunk to resist, though the kidnapping charges were later dropped.

Anonymous gave a January 1, 2013 deadline for apologies from those they claim were also involved in the rape. The group has already released basic information about some of the parties they say were involved, including names of parents, addresses and phone numbers. The hacktivist group claims more information will be released about those who fail to meet their apology deadline.

As of Wednesday morning, Anonymous claimed two of the name individuals had issued public "apologies" and were listed as," to be left alone," according to the hacked website. However by Wednesday afternoon, one of those individuals was listed as, "once again, not innocent."
